Every spring, the team at Element starts getting excited about a few things— the start of wedding season, the influx of colorful blooms, and of course, the Met Gala. You know we love our pop culture here at Element Preservation! We can’t wait to see what the 2025 Met Gala has in store, and the high fashion looks this year are sure to stun. We wanted to take a look back at some of the most iconic Met Gala looks over the years, and of course we thought it would be fun to pair up a selection of looks to some of our favourite preservation orders. There have been thousands of Met Gala fashion moments, so we used lists from Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar to help us narrow down some of our favorite styles from years past.
Let us know on socials what you think of this year's looks, and whether they look like any of the frames or functional resin pieces you’ve seen us post, or maybe even your own preservation!
Cher in Bob Mackie x 16x20 Gold Wood Floating Frame
Cher has always been an icon on and off stage, and her 1974 look for the Met Gala is no exception. We paired this feathered and sparkling ensemble with this Gold Wood frame (we couldn’t not put her with something golden!). The orchids here stand tall and stand out from their surroundings, just as our favorite pop icon did in this Bob Mackie jumpsuit.
Claire Danes in Calvin Klein x 16x20 White Wood Frame (Slate Backing)
Claire Danes always stuns, and this white dress and black shawl may seem simple, but it is a true fashion moment. This 1995 look reminded us of the simplicity of a black and white design, so we matched it with this white floral bouquet, which is set against our slate backing and housed in a sleek white frame. Claire and the flowers get to truly stand out when paired with the proper background.
Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Morad x Hexagon Confetti Coasters (Silver Flakes Addition)
J. Lo’s 2010 Met Gala gown is gorgeous (does J. Lo ever disappoint in the fashion department?) and the sweeping sparkle of it makes us think of our silver flakes in resin, mixed with confetti style petals. Already dried florals can be given a second life with our confetti offerings, and adding a little sparkle can make you feel just as fresh as the celebrities on the Met steps.
Zendaya in Vintage Givenchy Couture x 16x20 Black Wood Frame, Archival White Backing
When Zendaya walked out in this look in 2024, Element’s whole team gasped. No Met Gala look has ever spoken to us like this one! And of course, we have the perfect match for this look in our 16x20 Black Wood frame with bright, summery blooms. This frame has classic white archival grade backing, which will help keep it gorgeous for years to come, so one day it will also be a vintage piece of art like Zendaya’s choice of Met Gala gown.
Anne Hathaway in Valentino x Digital Floral in 16x20 Natural Frame (Date Addition)
Anne Hathaway blows us away every year she attends the Met Gala, and her 2010 appearance brings to mind this gorgeously recreated bouquet. The neutral tones of Anne’s dress and the flowing, light as air skirt are mimicked in this Digital Floral frame surrounded by Natural Wood. Digital Floral is a way to recapture your precious memories even years after the flowers have wilted. Like Anne Hathaway’s perfect visage, your flowers never have to fade with digital florals.
Victoria Beckham in Roland Mouret x Rectangle Serving Tray (Gold Handles)
Victoria Beckham is one of the long reigning queens of the fashion world, just as classic red roses will always have their place as the most romantic of bouquets. This 2006 red A-line dress and strappy heels make a mix of classic color and modern aesthetics. The red roses of the serving tray remind us of the flounce of the dress, and the gold handles will always be in style. Both Victoria’s look and the tray are pretty posh, if you ask us.
Taylor Swift in J. Mendel x 16x20 Walnut Floating Frame (Invitation Addition)
If you know Element Preservation, you know we love a chance to talk about Taylor Swift, our favorite pop star. In 2011 the Met’s theme was Savage Beauty and this dress and frame both speak to that. Our new walnut wood frames are classic, gorgeous and can showcase those bouquets that are out of our wildest dreams— just like Taylor’s Met Gala look. The golden hue within the preserved roses balances with the gorgeous invitation, and Taylor’s dress leaves a blank space within the gold fabric just as our designers make room for additions.
