Burst, Field, and Handheld: Choosing the Right Design Style for Your Pressed Flowers

Burst, Field, and Handheld: Choosing the Right Design Style for Your Pressed Flowers

*updated June 2026

You have decided to preserve your bouquet, and you have chosen your frame size and finish. There is one more creative choice that shapes how your finished piece will look, and it is a meaningful one: your design style.

At The Pressed Bouquet Shop by Element, every bouquet goes through the same careful preservation process. The design style is how our artisans arrange those preserved blooms inside your frame or tray. We offer three styles: Burst, Field, and Handheld. Each one tells a slightly different story about your flowers. Let's break down the difference so you can choose with confidence.

Burst Style

Burst is our most popular and most traditional style, and it is the one that most closely recreates the original shape of your bouquet. Your flowers are pressed mostly face forward and arranged to radiate outward from the center of the frame, almost like a firework opening up.

Because Burst is designed to rebuild the silhouette of your arrangement, it is wonderfully versatile. A cascading bouquet, a round classic bouquet, a tropical arrangement with broad monstera leaves: Burst can honor all of them and more. If your goal is to look at your finished piece and see your bouquet the way it looked on your day, Burst is the style that gets you there.

  • Best for:  When you want a full representation of your bouquet's shape

  • Available in:  All frame sizes and resin designs. It shines especially in the 16x20 or serving tray, where there is room for the full burst of blooms and greenery

Field Style

Field is our most artistic, abstract style. Rather than rebuilding the bouquet's original shape, your flowers are pressed showing both their faces and their profiles, with stems left intact and arranged to look as though they are growing up from a meadow. The result feels organic, airy, and a little editorial.

Field is especially beautiful for stemmy, garden-inspired, and wildflower bouquets, where the natural lines of the stems become part of the art. If you loved the loose, just-gathered feel of your flowers, Field celebrates exactly that.

  • Best for:  Wildflower, garden-style, and loose, stemmy bouquets, or anyone who prefers an artistic, modern look

  • Available in:  All frame sizes and serving trays. The taller orientation of larger frames gives the stems room to stretch

Handheld Style

Handheld is our newest design style, and it is one of the most traditional. Your blooms and stems are preserved together and gathered at the base, recreating your bouquet exactly as you held it as you walked down the aisle. We can even press and include the ribbon, so the finished piece looks like the moment your bouquet was placed in your hands.

Where Burst opens your flowers outward and Field lets them rise like a meadow, Handheld keeps them bound and intimate, the way they actually felt on your day. It is a beautiful choice for clients who want their piece to capture not just the flowers, but the feeling of carrying them.

Handheld is one of the most flexible styles we offer. It is available in every frame size, and it is also stunning in our pressed flower resin serving tray, where the gathered bouquet appears to float beneath the surface.

  • Best for:  Anyone who wants their piece to recreate the exact look of the bouquet as it was held, ribbon and all

  • Available in:  16x20 and 10x10 frame sizes and the pressed flower resin serving tray

Your Style and Your Size Work Together

Your design style and your frame size are two separate choices, and they shape your piece together. Your style decides how your flowers are arranged. Your size decides how many of them are included. A larger 16x20 gives any of these styles room to hold the full character of your bouquet, while a 10x10 features a curated selection of blooms. If you are still deciding between sizes, our guide to frame sizes walks through exactly what each one captures.
