The One With the Pressed Flowers

Friends' Character's Wedding Flower Preservation

While we work on preserving flowers at Element Design Co’s Easton studio, we have fun chatting about some of our favorite pieces of pop culture. One thing that always gets the team chatting is every millennial’s favorite show– Friends! The 90’s classic is still one of the most watched shows ever made. We all know whether we’re a Monica, a Rachel, or a Phoebe. The preservationists of Element, of course, think a lot about what those characters might do if they knew about flower preservation! We thought it’s be fun to share our ideas with you, and you can let us know whether you agree! If you find yourself relating to one character or another, this can be a way to get some inspiration for your own pressed bouquet frames or resin pieces.

If you’re a fan of these forays into pop culture through the lens of floral artwork, check out our FIeld Notes page for more fun posts on things like the Met GalaTaylor Swift, and A Court of Thorns and Roses

Monica & Chandler

Monica and Chandler

Everyone’s favorite sitcom couple have one of the most enduring loves in TV history. They just work together! We think they’d love getting to hang on to the memories of their beautiful wedding. Chandler would probably be the one to bring it up, since he’s truly a softie at heart.

First of all, there’s no way Monica would pass up on the Proofing Peony Experience. She would love having the chance to have a sneak peek at her designs and she would love getting to make edits. We’d love to have her input, since we’d know that she’d be getting exactly what she wanted. Her classic red rose bouquet would press gorgeously, and the red color lends itself to preservation, since it tends to fade very gradually.

As for products, we’re pretty sure both Monica would just have to go with something functional. We imagine her red bouquet living in a serving tray. Being that she’s a chef, she’d love to have something she could use to show off some fancy hor d'oeuvres while having the whole gang over. We can just picture her trotting out something delicious in little dishes, carrying them on the very flowers she held white saying “I do” to her best friend and true love. Both the Bings would probably get a little choked up at the thought!

Ross & Rachel

Ross and Rachel

Whether or not they were on a break, Ross and Rachel are the Friends couple that finally made it— though we know they were in love throughout the series, it took a while for them to truly come together. We don’t get to see what happens after Rachel (SPOILERS) gets off the plane in the show’s finale, so our only Ross and Rachel wedding is their Vegas mishap, which we know added another stroke to the tally of Ross’s divorces. We’re pretty sure that the two of them would do it once again– for keeps this time. Rachel’s Las Vegas bouquet is still a special part of their story, despite being faux florals they grabbed in their mad dash to make it to the Elvis officiated ceremony. Element has preserved a few faux bouquets, and her little bouquet would look adorable in a 10x10 frame if they decided to keep a memento (Ross would likely be the one doing this, since he did try to stay married to Rachel for as long as he could that time).

At the end of the day, it’s the couple’s true wedding that is left to our imaginations. We have the sense Rachel would stay true to her clean, classic style with an all white bouquet using different shapes and sizes of florals. We imagine she’d go with a frame to beautify her space, and would eventually pass it down to Emma as an heirloom of her parents’ love story. Of course it would be in a gold wood frame. We’re sure Rachel would approve!

Phoebe & Mike

Phoebe finds her lobster in Mike (we love Paul Rudd’s appearance on the show, too. He just fits right in!). Their winter wedding was made fun and colorful with Phoebe’s bright flowers, reflecting her personality perfectly. Phoebe would want to have pieces scattered around her home, so she’d likely go with a coaster set or two (in different shapes, of course). Having her flowers live on within resin would help them maintain that bright color and would make the memories come alive every time they caught a glimpse of one.

Gifts for Joey

Joey looking at a date with flowers in his hands from an episode of Friends

We don’t get to see whether Joey finds his true love in the world of the show, but we do see how much the friends love him. We know that they’d want to give a token of their appreciation. Joey officiating Chandler and Monica’s wedding (even if he was late and in costume) earned him a way to remember the day. We think one of the best gifts to give those who helped out for the wedding is one of our ornaments, which can be displayed all throughout the year in an ornament stand. We can just see Joey spinning them around and feeling the love from his friends.

Pressed flowers in two hanging ornaments, each showcased on an ornament hook, one gold and one matte black.
